Birds is the third in the series of colouring books made by Katy Sue Designs. To get more of a feel for the format of the books, you can read my review of the first two here. KSD's 'Art Colouring Books' are produced in a unique composition in that they contain several copies of the same picture, which include shaded and unshaded line drawings so that you can test out different palettes or techniques on the same image. Between these 10 main images there are lots of filler patterns that mostly relate to the subject matter, in this case feathers and nature. The book is like a practise pad for beginners, but should not be underestimated; it features truly beautiful illustrations that the seasoned colourist will really appreciate.

The book's material is self-explanatory; it's all about our feathered friends in lots of different species and varieties. From the majestic eagle to the delicate hummingbird, if birds are your thing you will absolutely love this well-crafted colouring book. My particular favourites are the Steampunk themed pictures :)

The paper in this book is an excellent quality thick card that takes all mediums, including watercolour paints, in its stride. There is minimal curling or buckling, even with a wet wash across the whole page (I have tested this!). All the illustrations are one sided and the book lays perfectly flat due to its large double spiral bind.

Overall it's another wonderful addition to the Art Colouring Book series, and I can't wait to see what's next! Here's my finished picture, painted with Gansai Tambi watercolour paints.
