After my Zig Mega Product Review last year I was keen to try more of Kuretake's products as I found the quality outstanding, so this time I have a selection of their waterbased colouring pens to show you. All these pens are from their Clean Color range. I also have a brilliant find: super-fine tip gel pens from Pilot! Read on!

Real Brush

These pens have a flexible brush tip for creating a variety of lines and can fill in different sizes of space. The nib tapers off to a very fine point and has a bristle tip instead of a fibre one, so it doesn't splay or fray like normal brush pens.

The colours appear vibrant and true to the colour on the base of the pen. The ink is smooth on the page and doesn't bleed through most paper stock.

As with Tombow brush pens, you can touch the tips together to create a seamless blend between two colours, without worrying about staining the tips. These pens come in single stock and sets of 12, 24, 36, 48 & 60, between £20 & £80.

These pens feature a dual tip; one side 0.5mm, the other a 1.2mm bullet. They come in single stock and sets of 12, 24 & 36. The ink glides across the paper and flows without breaking line. The fineliner tip is perfect for getting into tiny areas.

Chalk & Metallic Pastel

With dual tips of 1.2 & 1mm, these specialist pens bring something different to the table- the ability to colour with liquid chalk and the tinny shine you usually only find in metallic gel pens. Again, the tips are amongst the highest quality in the industry; long lasting and durable.

The pastel pens leave a chalky matte finish on the paper, an unusual effect that has a vintage, painted-on look, whilst the metallic colours are all mixed with silver to give a sheen in the light. They can only be purchased in single open stock at the moment, for just under £2 each.

These pens are a really interesting find as they are technically rollerballs not gel pens- but I was excited to find a gel ink pen that had a super-fine tip to get into intricate areas. I'm happy to say these pens work amazingly well with a teeny 0.2mm line- the smallest I've found in coloured pens. Gel ink is often a product of choice for people who don't get on with pencils, yet most gel pens produce a dense line with thickly flowing ink, making it difficult to use them on more complex colouring pages. Unfortunately these pens only come in 12 colours at the moment, but here's hoping Pilot release a larger palette soon! They can be bought in singles or the 12 pack.
To show you how all of these pens work on a detailed page, I coloured this picture from Lost Ocean which has incredibly tiny spaces. Everything inside the large circle was coloured with the Pilot pens, everything outside of it with the Zig selection.

So happy to see my #1 writing tool for these many years here! The C4 is perfect for writing especially for lefties as the ink dries instantaniously and thus we don't have to struggle with smudgy hands! :D
Pilot has another superfine tip series with similar ink, the Maica pens. They come in really nice colours although also in a limited palette.

This is cool, I've been using Pilot G-Tec C4 pens for years now and never realized I could also use them for coloring!
Off to buy the other colors as I only have them in blue and black.
