I received these books a few weeks ago, all the way from Australia. Zentangled is an A4 book with 17 hand-drawn illustrations- some of which apparently took 20 hours to complete! The abstract zentangles feature lots of flowers and leaves, all of them kept within a border so they don't disappear into the binding. The centrefold is the only double-page spread in this simply stapled book. The majority of the illustrations are finished with very thick black lines, which isn't my favourite as I've said before. A good thing about it is that you don't have to be careful with going out of the lines! Here's some pages for you to have a look at: The paper is one thing that lets this book down, which Joanna is aware of and in the process of changing. It's very glossy, so pencil crayons don't lay down very well. Pens work okay, in fact I noticed that my Spectrum markers didn't spread as much as they do on more porous paper. The shiny-ness of it can make it seem as though your felt tips are running out when they're not, but as I say it's an issue the illustrator is sorting out for her next print. She is also adding more pages next time which will be great as it is quite a thin book at the moment. Colour Me In is the second book of 4 in Joanna's series, and I must admit I do like this one better than Zentangled, mainly because it has a variety of different subject matter rather than just abstract patterns. There are butterflies, hearts, flowers, and more! Physically, the book is exactly the same size & paper as Zentangled. Here's a look inside: Here are my completed photos! I particularly enjoyed using my glitter gel pens on the butterfly, and although I'm still practicing with my Chameleon pens, I don't think the flowers look too bad. These books were given to me in exchange for an honest review. You can find Joanna's collection on her Etsy page.
