The Garden Gnomes by J.B. Johnson

I like to think that the world is like Toy Story, and every time we leave the house our toys come to life. I mean, it could happen right? And wouldn't it also be cool if gnomes and fairies at the bottom of the garden existed too? Yep, sometimes I like to imagine how fantastic the world would be if fairytale creatures were real but mere humans didn't have a clue... Like with Santa Claus, belief is magic and sometimes we need to get back to our childhood and recapture that same sense of mystery and wonder. Enough with the rambling introduction, I'd like to present to you: The Garden Gnomes colouring book!

This book depicts all the humorous and strange situations Gnomes can get into in daily garden life, and who wouldn't love to shrink down small and clamber atop a giant toadstool or take the reins on a snail ride? Grow out your beard, pull on your cap (are you a red or a blue?) and escape into the fantasy world of an enchanted garden that might just be your own...
This whimsical colouring book could be shared by adults and children alike, as the landscape-orientated illustrations are not too difficult yet still take some time to complete. The one-sided paper is fairly good quality, and all the drawings are contained in a border. There are 24 images in total, each one portraying the goings on of Mr Gnome and his wife. I wish they had different expressions in some of the pictures, as they seem to look the same in each scene.

It's a lovely, lighthearted book that has simple yet quirky drawings, and is a book I think I'll come back to when I don't want to work to hard on a piece- a palette cleanser if you will. There's nothing wrong with adult colouring being child-like sometimes; after all children gave us the idea in the first place :)

Here's my finished picture of Mr & Mrs G under what I'd like to think is a wedding arch made out of flower vines.
