The Absur'd Coloring Activity Book by J. A. Early Riser & T. J. Crayons + GIVEAWAY

Sometimes you come across a book that's so weird and wacky it sort of defies categorisation. The Absur'd Activity book is one of those! It is the creation of Anisa Clare; a Canadian property manager-come- author and artist, and Travis Baribeau; an artist and poet from Vancouver.

This book is a mixture of zany colouring pages, madcap stories and is honestly a bit ridiculous- which is the point! Within the 84 pages you will be introduced to many original characters (including Wonky Wizards, Feral Faeries and Toilet Trollz) through illustrations and humorous diary entries by the authors, who go about their day interacting with said creatures and creating odd poems and short stories for your entertainment. All sounds a bit 'far out' and bizarre? It is!

If you want a  snapshot of the general theme of this book, know that there is a colouring page that is just stalks of asparagus. That should give you a good idea of the wackiness within! There's also wordsearches, word scrambles, a cut-out doll with clothing, a dot-to-dot and a create-your-own 'Z-bot' page!

Take a peep inside this peculiar world of absurdity...
There is another version of this book which is made up of colouring pages only, so if the activities and narrative aren't your thing check the bottom of this post for a link to that book.

The activity book has 33 double-sided colouring pages and 11 single sided, so there is plenty to colour here despite it being peppered with text and other things to do. The paper is a decent thickness but there is a coating to the pages which did slightly resist the gel pens I used.

I'd recommend this book to anyone from teenage upwards who likes quirky colouring books that have something different rather than reams of black and white images. It's a little pricey at just over £10, but there is a lot packed into it. The JUST colouring book is a few pounds cheaper.

Here's my finished picture, which I completed with Spectrum Noir markers, soft pastels and various types of Gelly Roll pens.

Have discovered colouring as a hobby in my retirement and think medically it would be easily proved to be a very therapeutic occupation, helping with concentration and co-ordination Dementia sufferers must surely benefit. I don't do twitter so cannot go further but hope this comment will be considered.

You are not wrong Jean, I work in a mental health setting and this is a therapy we have been using for a while now. It has proved popular and is very calming.

I am also disabled and when I found coloring I knew I'd never be bored again!! It does get boring sometimes when you can't do much and I can only look at the computer screen for so long then I have to find something else to do. I have found I love coloring and it is extremely therapeutic.
