A Colouring Classic Pride & Prejudice
A Colouring Classic Romeo & Juliet
When I heard Little Tiger Press was releasing two new colouring books based on literary classics, I was stoked! I love the timeless masterpieces of writing that everyone knows, too brilliant and too epic to ever be forgotten. As with the colouring books by Good Wives and Warriors, it's great to have these stories rendered in illustration to further bring them to life for longtime fans as well as the new generation.

Pride and Prejudice tells us the desperately romantic tale of headstrong Elizabeth Bennett and haughty Mr Darcy, surely one of the best love stories of all time. This colouring book features key characters and scenes from the book with accompanying quotes, alongside lots of pretty flora and fauna as a nod to the sprawling gardens and grounds described in the original tale. These flowers are all named in a glossary at the back of the book which tells you the meaning of each species and why they relate to the story.

Romeo & Juliet; another classic story from the pen of another brilliant writer. This colouring book follows the namesakes on their doomed journey through star-crossed love and familial adversity, culminating in the couple's joint suicide (sorry if that was a spoiler ;). Again, the book depicts all the scenes we know and love, again with lots of tangled flowers and nature.

This book also features a glossary- or rather, 'Apothecary's Shelf'- of the flowers illustrated throughout the pages, such as the Deadly Nightshade Juliet consumed for a deep sleep, and Monkshood which ultimately finished Romeo off.
The paper is a great quality thickness and bright white, with no bleed-through or shadowing from waterbased pens. This is somewhat a necessity as all the pages are double sided. The linework is very fine and crisp but not too intricate. The majority of pages are double spread, with few standalone pages. As the binding is not lay flat, you may have some problems colouring into the spine.

The covers are a thick cardstock and completely colourable, with
3/4 sized dust flaps to the front and rear. There is beautiful gold and bronze coloured foiling to the title and details of P&P and R&J respectively, giving the books a real look of opulence and luxury depicted in the stories.

Here are my finished pages from both books.

There are further books to be released in this series, including Wuthering Heights, Bram Stoker's Dracula (can't wait for that one!) and A Christmas Carol, so look out for those in the Autumn!

I would dearly love to own these books, especially the Romeo & Juliet book!! I read the book with my son when he had it for a class assignment in high school. We watched 2 different versions of the movie as well. What a classic!!
