Annette Rand is a self-confessed rat obsessive, passionate about the species since her first pet rat, Missy, in 1983. She now runs a website dedicated to the care and keeping of the cute little rodents, and has recently taken on a completely unrelated project- designing colouring books! Of course there's a rat one, but I have all 3 in the series to show you today so no worries if you're not ratty-inclined!

Simply Snowflakes

It's the time of year when you see these frosty little shapes everywhere you go, and what better Christmassy colouring theme than snowflakes? They're so intricate and patternful, each one as unique as the last. Annette has developed a snowflake menagerie for your festive predilections, featuring lots of large and miniature crystals ideal for those glitter gel pens.

Fanciful Rats

Here it is, the rat-lovers' colouring bible! The 30 illustrations are very reminiscent of real rat poses, curious and comical. The animals differ in complexity, my favourite style being the swirls and disjointed sections that make up the bigger picture- oh and of course the Steampunk rat! And the little padded feet! If anyone you know is a rat fan, you can do no wrong with this book- I think it's turned me into one!

Butterflies

Annette used to draw butterflies for her children to colour when they were young, an inevitable inspiration for this book. The heavily detailed, intricate wing patterns are so delicate and graceful, the symmetry of them so relaxing to colour. This is probably my favourite book of the three as the end result is so spectacular.
The paper is average quality, waterbased pens not bleeding through, and each one is printed single sided. There are around 30 designs in each book, most of them taking up a full page.

Here's my finished pictures from the books, all done with Triplus felt pens.
