Many of you will have heard of these pencils via La Artistino (Peta Hewitt) on YouTube who absolutely raves about them. I am giving away THREE packs if I get to 15k likes before Halloween but more about that later!

Micador ColouRush are an Australian brand pencil geared towards children which come in a maximum of 36 colours and are extremely affordable at just $19AUS / £11GBP / $14USD.

The pencils are hexagonal shaped with a very strong & sturdy 4mm core, which as you can see is far thicker than the similarly priced Staedtler Ergosoft. They blend incredibly well, not as well as premium pencils like Prismacolor, but ColouRush are definitely up there as a top budget alternative to artist grade pencils. This fully bonded core means they sharpen very well without many breakages at all, in fact I haven't had one break on me yet and have used them profusely.

Erasing is fairly good at around 85% removal, especially with battery operated erasers like the Derwent.

The pigment is really rich and saturates the paper with vivid colour even when light pressure is used. As with all coloured pencils, they perform better on paper that has some degree of tooth to grasp the colour and enable layering. They blend surprisingly well even when using just two (similar) shades, compared with using 3-4 Prismacolors to get a smooth gradient.

At the moment ColourRush pencils are nigh on impossible to get in the UK, and are even sold out on the Micador site in Australia! So possibly the only way of getting your hands on these at the moment without paying hefty postage on eBay is to enter my competition-- all you have to do is Like my page on Facebook and you're in! Sharing is caring, because if we get to 15k before Halloween (currently on 13,471) I will be giving away packs of 36 to TWO runner's up PLUS some Staedtler goodies to the winner.
Here are some pictures I have coloured with Micador ColouRush pencils, from the postcard book Alfabetets Magiska Varld by Hue Huynh.
