Kids Colouring Day: Maped pens & pencils

When it comes to kids and colouring products, I've learnt from this past couple of reviews that the watchword is first and foremost FUN. Maped, another French manufacturer (looks like France is the place to be for kids' stationery!), have developed a new way of keeping pens together without the risk of losing them or their caps. The Color'Peps Jungle pen set has indentations which the lids are attached onto, so the pens are taken out and put back into the leaf-like base. This innovative design is the winner of two National Stationery Awards!

So no more playing hide and seek with lids, as it says on the website! With each pen standing upright in a flexible base, you can cluster them together and place in your pencil case or just keep them on the desk. The nibs are smooth, giving beautifully flowing and ultra-bright colour. They can be left uncapped for a couple of hours without running dry, and overall are a great buy for kids and adults alike as it looks so cool! They're just £4.79 with free delivery on Amazon.

I particularly love how each colour has a cute name!

Maped also have a set of 12 pencils with the same colours, presented in a metal tin. They are fabulous for colouring with, the pigment coming off onto the paper with the lightest of touches. They blend very easily and shading is a doddle. I feel the 36-pack of these would be a viable alternative for anyone who can't afford expensive artist pencils, but still want a good budget product.

The barrels are triangular for ease of grip, and are shock resistant in case they're dropped. They're very easy to sharpen and the leads seem strong.
Here's a picture I coloured with them, to show you how well they can be shaded. I did this very quickly and I think the results are great for how cheap the pencils are- just £3.35 with free delivery on Amazon!
