I was super stoked to hear Johanna Basford was extending her signature style to paper products and accessories- I'd fill my house with her intricately patterned monochrome if I could! From colouring canvasses to colourable jigsaw puzzles, the JB range seems to be going from strength to strength. As someone who constantly has her phone glued to her hand, colourable phone cases was the most exciting announcement.
Cases are available for iPhone 6 & 7 in 3 themed packs: Secret Garden, Enchanted Forest & Lost Ocean. Each set contains a phone case and 5 colourable inserts made from thick ivory card and cut to fit. You can also buy separate packs of inserts for the other designs, so you don't have to buy the case every time.
The case feels robust and sturdy around the phone, particularly the rubber bumper which provides a thick layer of protection on all sides and corners. The buttons are responsive and easy to press, not to mention a beautiful metallic gold colour which matches the Johanna Basford name inscribed on the clear backplate. The cut-outs are all positioned accurately and allow chargers and headphone jacks to be inserted without fuss.
The only critique I have about the design is that the bumper is so thick it can be difficult to reach the silent switch without really having to poke your nail in there, but it's a compromise I'm willing to make for the protection the bumper gives. Here are my finished inserts for each set. I used markers on them all and there was no bleed or anything onto the other side- not that it matters! Overall I'd certainly recommend these cases for the avid colourist and JB fan, or just as a gift for someone who likes pretty accessories. You could even colour them all yourself before giving as a personalised present :) iPad Air 2 & Mini cases are also available.
