This is the second colouring book by Hilary Leslie, an artist from Oregon in the USA. Her first book focused on hand-drawn Henna designs, and can be seen on my video review here. I have to say I much prefer the new book as it has such a range of different scenes and it's evident that lots of time and love was put into the illustrations- it hasn't just been quickly drawn and thrown together like a lot of self-published books saturating the market at the moment.

Flora & Fauna contains 48 nature-themed illustrations which are all hand drawn in pen & ink, so you get those lovely wobbly, imperfect lines that are so much better than pristine digital art. Inside the pages you will find a plethora of animals including a flamingo, fox, deer, butterfly, fish, birds and much more. There's also lots of leaves, flowers and plant life to colour, all in Hilary's detailed pattern style. In fact, there is so much to colour in this book that you really are getting your money's worth!

Take a look through the book in this video flip-through below:

The book is published by Amazon so the paper is average quality and weight, but still has some tooth for coloured pencil blending. Don't forget to always pop some paper or card behind the image you're colouring if using markers- there's a couple of blank sheets included for this purpose at the rear of the book.

It is A4 in size with a glossy card cover and has each illustration printed on one side. The linework is a medium thickness and the level of detail varies from super intricate to wide open spaces, so there's something for every colourist's preference. All designs are centred on the page and don't run into the middle or off the edge. The book is flexible and allows a degree of flattening in the spine for ease of colouring.

Here is my finished page, which I coloured with Spectrum Noir and Sharpies.
