I love it when colouring plays a part in other forms of media, like colour-your-own cushion covers and things that we use in everyday life. JACE.design (a San Franscisco based studio focused on uniquely designed products) partnered with Carved (an Indiana-based design team who make gadget cases from quality real wood) to produce some gorgeous wood-formed phone cases which you can digitally colour yourself.

The cases are very well packaged and presented, each one arriving in a lovely illustrated box including some stickers and information cards explaining a bit more about the Carved team and brand.

Your personally coloured design is printed onto Maple wood and made into a sturdy, high quality phone case. Currently, cases for the following models of phone are available: iPhone 7/7+, iPhone 6/6s/6+, iPhone SE/5/5c, Pixel, Pixel XL, Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 Edge.

There are several designs to choose from including geometrical patterns, valentines and animals. Once you've chosen your design, simply use the colouring function to either fill in the linework automatically or colour each section piece-by-piece in your chosen palette. You could even keep it as outline only and colour it yourself with Sharpies, but I can't guarantee how well that would work or how long it would last! I decided to digitally colour my case in rainbow, and below is how it turned out!

The case itself is really stunning with a proper quality feel. It's quite weighty due to the wood, but isn't too heavy to hold. The printing is really precise and the colours look great on the wood grain backdrop. It feels super protective and durable, and fits around my phone snugly with the cut out's all in the right place. The inside of the case is black with the Carved team's signatures and JACE.design logo, and the outside has that lovely texture and even smell (yes, I smelled it!) of freshly cut wood.

Naturally, premium quality comes at a price. Each case costs £35 / $44, which is more than most people would pay for a phone case but much less than some of the luxury cases available on the market. Shipping costs are £3.20 to the UK and free inside the US. They ship worldwide so please check your shipping rate before ordering.

I can definitely attest for the standard of craftsmanship and finish of these cases and I don't think any buyer would be disappointed. Perfect as a special gift to a friend or treat for yourself, these cases are hard-wearing, protective and stylish and have been made with real care and passion.
