Great review Claire. Such a shame about the book. It really looks like his heart wasn't in this one. Perhaps he should have stuck with his decision to stop after the last one.

Oh dear! I agree with your review completely.
I liked that there were more single page illustrations. I found his previous books had to many double pages for me with to much detail. But the pictures themselves were not good, to much black.
I won't be buying this book.
I don't think its true kerby style. How disappointing.

I totally agree with your opinion. I felt deceived at first. I am not sure why he didn't stop when he said that he would (it's a sell out) . They always say to end on a high note. Perhaps he was pressured by his publisher, or perhaps was feeling the need for money.... :(

Please take a look at Kerbys Facebook-Profil. There he recommendet this. And yes, he was restricted by his publisher. Also the next book (release in October) which is nearly finished. At the moment he doesn't expect a mindchange at his publisher. So he realy and final decided not to continiue making coloring books.

Maybe - thats my opinion - he will change his mind with a publisher who supports his creativity and ideas. I hope so.

After reading his comment to his book I'm finaly able to understand, why so many great artist sell theyr books directly without a big publisher. 😢😢😢

Wow, so very dissapointed in this book, think i only like 3 pages and some are cut off ... i wanted that wolf to colour. Agree with your review and am so glad i saw it before buying a copy. What a let down after waiting patiently. I will have to wait for his last book 😑 thanks for your honesty Claire 😉

So sad. :( Kirby's books are what began my coloring frenzy, and I was so looking forward to more of the same. It's too bad that there were choices beyond his control. As Shona commented; it looks like his heart wasn't in it. Thanks for the honest review!

I agree, it was surprising to see the line art not up to previous standards. Some of the images remind me of themes found in Hanna Karlzon’s and Bennett Klein’s book. I ordered the next book Geomorphia. Maybe the other half of the wolf will be in it...

Do you think the UK edition published by Micheal O’Mara will have more pages, or better print quality?

Thanks for the review Claire. I was so looking forward to this book. I had pre-ordered from Book Depository. I did notice there was two publishers. Plume which is the one released now & Michael O'Mara not due for publication for some time (49 days now) All my Morphia books were published by O'Mara, so that's what I ordered Whilst I do like some of the images, I'm not a fan of dark areas and have cancelled my order. Maybe the images won't be so dark in the next publication or part two. I think the single pages & not in the spine is wonderful. Think I'll just wait and see at this stage. Love the page you have coloured. Looking forward to seeing what you do with these pages.

Thanks for the review Claire I am so glad I've seen this in time and just managed to cancel an order for 3 copies from Book Depository before they got sent out. I was really looking forward to this release having his other books but I am hugely disappointed now I've seen it! I completely understand it's not his fault but for the publisher etc it's a sure fire way to lose loyal customers 😏

When I first saw this book I was disappointed, I didn't like it. But the more I see flip-through's, the more I grow to like the images. I think the dark places would work as a heavy greyscale and as for the filigree style parts, I would colour it as if the pattern weren't there and use the designs as texture. You don't have to follow every line, do you? :-)

While this book doesn't mention it, but I tend to think of this book as a greyscale book, hence it's so dark. I like the drawings and will be adding to my wishlist. I don't, however, think we should be paying the same for less. I agree with you there.

I ha e all of his books, and love everyone of them. I actually liked this one with the pages being one sided. I had a different problem with the book, and it’s the weirdest thing I’ve ever seen. I only have 15 different pages to color! 4 pages are repeats! I have the crow as page 1, then the next 4 pictures repeat themselves back to back!??! Missing are the 4 pages from the skull to the cat. Replacing those pages are pages 6,7,8 and 9. Then it goes back to normal with pages 6 thru 9 appearing again. Anybody else seen anything like this?

This is my first time for me. I loved your review of fantamorphia. And i agree with you the book is lacking on what we are use to seeing from Kerby. The one that i love the most out of this book is the castle and it was the first one i colored. I used 4 shades of green to give it a dark and eerie feeling to it with red roofs and dark purple windows with gold trim. The half moon i started out with gold from the ground and turned it into silver at the end. I would love to send a picture of it to you if you would like to see it. I love you coloring and your work and look forward to seeing more. Keep up the good work. Thanks for reading.
