Coloring Dream Mandalas is the latest stunner from illustrator and blogger Wendy Piersall (See my review for her first book, Coloring Flower Mandalas here, and my interview with Wendy here). Rather than the botanicals of her previous book, this sequel focuses more on whimsical imagery like faeries, dragons, dream catchers and celestial angels. There are 30 beautifully artistic illustrations in total, all encased in the soft circle shape of a mandala.

These original drawings are designed to relax and soothe, with lots of natural, organic themes to ground and comfort the colourist. Each one is carefully drawn with a fine line and fairly detailed, but not ridiculously intricate. Inspiring quotes are also included, ready to be given life with colour and displayed somewhere to give you daily affirmations. Wendy's imaginative style never fails to impress, so lie back and drift into this beautifully tranquil collection of artwork.
As with all of Wendy's colouring books each image is printed on one sheet of paper, so you're not restricted to using pencils only. The paper is good quality and has a nice tooth to grab the ink (I'm not keen on the smooth, glossy paper some colouring books have). The book itself has a smooth matte cover featuring 2 pre-coloured illustrations from inside. It measures around 9x7 inches, so it's a handy size for slipping into your bag and taking outdoors. I feel as though the book would be even more magical if coloured outside, in nature, where the mystical subject matter is rooted. Maybe one day I'll stroll to the park and colour this sat under a tree with the grass between my toes and the hazy sun peeping through the leaves. See, I'm dozing off into my own dream just talking about the book!

I can't wait for October when Wendy's next book is released: Colouring Ocean Mandalas! Make sure you pre-order that one folks, the teaser images I've seen so far blew me away!

Here's my completed picture, coloured with Spectrum Noir and Sakura Stardust Gelly Roll pens.

This was an informative read! I had been considering pre-ordering her upcoming Ocean Mandalas book, and I think I shall, now.
