Fashionista colourists, I've found your bible! I've seen a few clothes design colouring books floating about, but nothing as well executed and packed full of actual fashion lines and designer collections. You can tell immediately that the illustrator has a genuine interest in the subject, as the book is so comprehensive. If Carrie Bradshaw coloured, this book would be front & centre on her shelf! The creator is Minjee Kang, a fashion design graduate from Seoul, South Korea, which is why the book isn't English titled. Everything inside is English, though.
The book is filled with black and white renderings of collections from Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Dior, Balenciaga- pretty much any designer worth their salt has been featured in Minjee's book! There are bags, shoes, perfumes, watches- even cut out dolls! So it's a lot more than just clothing garments. Here's a quick look video and my usual slideshow of images.
Birth of Fashion is the same size as Animal Kingdom, with 98 double-sided pages. The paper is thick and white with no bleed through from waterbased markers. Postage from Korea is around £8 to the UK, so altogether you'll be spending almost £20 on this book. I suppose you'll have to really want the book and be interested in couture, but even for a general colourist you're getting a lot of detail and hard work for your money. If you think about the amount of work that has gone into it- everything being hand drawn with pen & ink instead of digitally created- twenty quid isn't a bad price. You'll have hours & hours of colouring time here as each page is packed! Just remember it may take some time to arrive from abroad, but each copy is signed by Minjee with a cute postcard included, so it's worth the wait :)
Here's my finished page, using Spectrum Noir markers.
I was given this book in exchange for an honest review. You can find it on Minjee's Etsy page.
