Lynnda Rakos, illustrator of Martini Madness and Spaceship Betty

Help our followers get to know you. What does atypical day in the life of Lynnda Rakos involve?
I wake up early, check my emails, and have a cup of coffee. Wake up the dogs,  bring them outside. Then I exercise on a step machine and I love to hula hoop:) to upbeat music. Then get ready and start working. Of course another cup of coffee. Then break for lunch, do household things that need to be done. Back to work till I prepare dinner and eat, walk the dogs, watch TV and bed.

When did you first become interested in illustrating?
The first time I read a children's book with beautiful illustrations I knew that I wanted to illustrate stories.

What are your favourite things to draw?
I love drawing robots, I have a large collection of antique wind up robots. I also love drawing my character Spaceship Betty and put her in interesting situations and of course she is with her dog Bubblegum and lots of Robots :)

If you weren't an illustrator what would you be?
After art school I was a children's clothing designer, I loved doing that.

Why do you think adult colouring books have become so huge?
I always loved coloring and over 20 years ago I draw a coloring book for adults. I thought it was a good idea then for relaxation time. I was right :)

What does your working environment look like?
I have 2 places where I like to draw. One is my art studio, and the other is the den in my home. Lots of toys, children's books and art books for inspiration.

Do you listen to music when you work? If so, who/what?
Yes. I love music all kinds pop, top 40, my favorite is R&B. Sam Smith, Amy Winehouse, Bruno Mars, Dirty Heads. I'm also lucky because my husband is a songwriter and musician and plays his original songs while I am drawing.

What are your favourite things in life?
Coffee, toy robots, paint brushes, art books, and my puppies.

Finally, please give 3 words that describe your work.

Fun, Happy, and Atomic
