Karlon Douglas, illustrator of Coloring on the Edge series
Help our followers get to know you. What does a typical day in the life of Karlon Douglas involve?
Drawing! Lots and lots of Drawing. Eating. Sleeping. Drawing. Repeat.

When did you first become interested in illustrating?
I been making art since I could apply markers to drywall, but I didn’t get serious about it until I was about 18 years old. That’s when I decided to enroll in my college’s art program. I’ve changed a lot as an artist since then, but it’s been a hell of a ride!

What are your favourite things to draw?
Lowbrow art, Monsters, anything I’m into at any given moment, and Badass Women.

Where do you find inspiration?
Anything crazy, sci-fi, horror, or beautiful.

If you weren't an illustrator what would you be?

I’ve always just wanted to be an artist, but if I had to choose…..probably a director or some other position in the movie industry.

Why do you think adult colouring books have become so huge?
I think it’s because people have a new way to revisit that fun they had as kid . That and all the therapeutic reasons that we’ve heard about lately. I think it has also become an outlet for those who may not necessarily have the skills to make art from scratch. Instead, they can fill in what’s already there and augment it further.

What does your working environment look like?
I have three main areas I like to work in. An upstairs office, a desk downstairs where I can look out my glass doors at the rain, and my art room; which is wildly decorated to match my thought process.

Do you listen to music when you work? If so, who/what?
That is a Big YES! I listen to every genre of music you can think of while working. Though, I do find myself listening to heavy metal and 80’s rock more so than anything.

What are your favourite things in life?
Friends, Family, Music, My Work, and Tacos!

Finally, please give 3 words that describe your work.

Crazy, Edgy, and Awesome!
