Help our followers get to know you. What does a typical day in the life of Annie Yates involve? I have two young boys, so it usually starts in chaos! I am a stay at home mum to my youngest to my daytime involves a lot of playing, cooking and - of course- colouring. My website is all about holistic living and I cook everything from scratch so cooking is a big part of our life - which usually involves photographing it too. My evenings are taken up with writing my website, drawing and promoting my book. I love being busy. When did you first become interested in illustrating? I have always drawn. When i was a child I would draw women with long hair and pretty dresses over and over again. I have always been really repetitive and detailed. At school I was obsessed with the artist Klimt and would draw and paint using his work as inspiration. I went on to do a degree in fine art before becoming a designer. What are your favourite things to draw? Lots and lots of lines. I love to draw hair, flowers, waves and repetitive patterns. Creating my artwork is a relaxing process, I enjoy the obsessive detailing. Where do you find inspiration? I don’t look at other illustrator all that often as I suffer really badly with illustration envy. It’s not good for my creative flow, because whenever I see an amazing illustrator I want to scrap my style and draw more like them! I get inspired by the beauty in nature. I love flowers, clouds, waves… oh and women’s hair. I've drawn women's hair for as long as I can remember. I find the repetition relaxing. If you weren't an illustrator what would you be? I combine all of my passions with my website, which include drawing, yoga, meditation, cooking and photography, so It is hard to imagine what else I would be. Why do you think adult colouring books have become so huge? Modern life is amazing but with the fast pace and technology we all need to slow down a bit. Colouring takes us back to our childhood - to a time when things are simpler and we had no stress or responsibility. Colouring is a wonderful way to escape. What does your working environment look like? I love a minimal and clutter free home and my workspace is much the same. I have a minimal white IKEA desk with a few books and files. At night I put everything away and it returns to a clear uncluttered space. My personally is quite chaotic so my workspace really can not be! Do you listen to music when you work? If so, who/what? I consider myself a very happy person in life, but I like to listen to while I work is surprisingly dark and emotive. I currently love Hozier, Heartless Bastards, Sam Smith, Rufus Wainwright and Patti Smith. What are your favourite things in life? Easy, My husband and my two kids. We love living relaxed, happy and healthy life. I enjoy the happiest moments when the four of us are chilling together at home. Finally, please give 3 words that describe your work. Organic, Relaxing, Lines
