When I went online to do some research for this promo I found myself overwhelmed by Amelia Gregory's story, her adventures from being a chalet girl in Austria to an internship at Marie-Claire (incidentally, the magazine I'm named after) being just the tip of the iceberg in her colourful and just damn interesting life! With a background in textiles and illustration, her creative inclinations led her to design and release Amelia's Magazine, a biannual publication filled with music, art, fashion, illustration, photography and craft that ran for 10 issues. The indie magazines were unlike anything on sale at the time, with unique covers including diamante and flocked (furry) paper, and are now sought-after collectors items. It is currently run entirely online from Amelia's home in London and is updated daily.
After printing a series of colouring pages 10 years ago in the magazine, Amelia has decided to create her own eclectic colouring book featuring the work of 40 artists. This colouring book will be in a completely new format, with one page in full colour and the facing page monochrome, the images similar but not the same. This enables the artist to show off their work whilst giving inspiration and ideas to the colourist.
Not only will this totally unique book look amazing, it will feel it too. Amelia isn't looking to mass print on whatever paper stock is cheapest- it will be produced on beautifully thick and high quality paper with a lay flat binding- an expensive process that many publishers just don't do to keep costs down and margins high.
Each of the artists that have illustrated in the book will be interviewed on Amelia's website in the near future, so all you'll have to do is log on to find out more about the artist behind your favourite image. The book will be a limited edition, with any extra copies produced sold online and in select stores only, so it's a chance to get a really unusual and one-of-a-kind piece that's more an art portfolio than your bog standard colouring book.
So, where can I get my copy I hear you cry. Amelia has just launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund the book and get it produced and released by Christmas. Quite a task I know, but she's raised almost a fifth of her £8,000 in just a day so I have every faith that this very special project will hit it out of the park. If you want to get behind Amelia and secure your copy(ies) of this LIMITED EDITION colouring book, support the Kickstarter campaign today! You can find out more about Amelia on her website and read my interview with her here.
