This tongue in cheek book was created by teacher, librarian and artist Casey Landau, who is based in North Carolina, USA. It features 23 powerful and influential women from history, all celebrated through Casey's simple yet iconic illustrations. The women included are not all familiar to me (probably because they haven't had the recognition they deserve) so I did a bit of research about some of them and learnt a lot of interesting things that really, we all should know. In this book you will find pen & ink renditions of: Josephine Baker, Nellie Bly, Rachel Carson, Soong Ching-Ling, Hillary Clinton, Claudette Colvin, Marie Curie, Sor Juana, Indira Ghandi, Emma Goldman, Sheikh Hasina, Billie Holiday, Mae Jemison, ''Mother'' Jones, Frida Kahlo, Billie Jean King, Tina Modotti, Annie Oakley, Michelle Obama, Georgia O'Keefe, Yoko Ono, Betty Shabazz, and Madame C. J. Walker. The book is A4 with a card cover, with a simple staple binding. The paper is of standard quality and your marker pens will bleed, so either use pencils or scan and print these to colour, unless you're comfortable with sacrificing the other side of these double-sided pages. This book would have been fantastic if it had single sided pages, as all of these women deserve beautiful bright colours! So, if you're a feminist, have an interest in women's history, a teacher, child, parent or grandparent- basically anyone- grab a copy of this wonderful book and educate yourself whilst you colour! Here's my finished page of Marie Curie, done with Tinc brush pens. I was given this book in exchange for an honest review. You can buy it on Casey's Etsy page, here.
