My friend & illustrator Delyth Angharad posted a great tutorial for using finished colouring pages to create beautiful magnets and coasters, and it got me to thinking: how else could you use colouring in everyday life? I've always loved stationery from since I can remember, so things like a fresh pad of post-its and a new pack of pens are the equivalent of new bags or shoes to me! So I thought why not make my very own stationery with coloured images? You could make letterheads by designing an image and printing to colour, or print an image directly onto an envelope before colouring (if your printer has those settings), there's so many ideas. One thing that excited me was making my own address labels and seals, because I think they give a professional and personalised edge to a letter when mailing out. I went in search of adhesive printer paper and voila- super quick and easy stationery with a colouring touch! You will need: Self-adhesive paper (available in many quantities and prices) A PC & printer, and basic knowledge of inserting shapes, clipart and text boxes Scissors Your favourite colouring pens (I find markers are the best as the paper surface is glossy) Step 1: Creating the image If you're good at drawing and want to design the image yourself, draw and scan your picture to the PC. If, like me, you can't draw to save your life, use clipart to find the image you want. Here, you will see I've made a seal, and an address label by inserting text and a flower image inside a rectangular box. I sized the box at 38mm x 21mm, which is just right for the corner of a regular envelope. Step 2: Print, Colour, Cut! Once you've printed you can get busy colouring! You can either print lots out and colour them all individually, or scan one after you've finished to reproduce them ready-coloured. Step 3: Apply! It really is as simple as that- but you can make them as intricate or different as you like. I did a simple design for the purposes of this tutorial, but I'll be practicing with other designs and ideas to make them look even better. The sticky paper is really useful and will come in handy for lots of different projects- my kids are already using them to print out Minecraft stickers for their laptop covers! Here's how my label and seal look when applied. I hope you've enjoyed this tutorial and it's given you inspiration for using your colouring skills in different ways!
