The Magical City and The Magical Christmas were Lizzie Mary Cullen's bestselling colouring titles of 2015, and now she's back to complete the trilogy with The Magical Journey. It's the perfect addition to her previous works, still in that same abstract style that looks crazy at first but amazing when complete.
The Magical Journey is slightly different to the first book in that it incorporates a story element, making the book flow on a timeline rather than the totally separate locations and landmarks Lizzie illustrated in book one. There's a little treasure hunt too, featuring location-specific items like surfboards in Australia and chopsticks in Japan. Lizzie actually traveled the world to garner inspiration for this book, so it's very much an illustrated log of places she discovered on her real life trek. She is even a character in the book, along with her Pug, Paddy! You are taken all across the continents to places like Machu Pichu, Chicago, Surfer's Paradise, and Tokyo, with both well-known monuments and more intimate finds like diners and remote train stops.
The paper is identical to that in the previous books, but for those of you who don't own them it's good quality, white and has a smooth surface. There is slight shadowing on the reverse with waterbased pens if you press hard or go over the same place a number of times, but nothing that wouldn't be covered by colouring the page behind. The book is identical to its predecessors in size and shape, and features pretty silver foiling to the cover that really sets it off. Don't they look lovely together?
There are quite a few double page spreads included but more standalone images. Here's a couple that I've started from the book, using my Derwent Inktense pencils and a water brush.
This book was given to me in exchange for an honest review. You can find it on Amazon here:

It looks even more gorgeous than the other two. Lovely to see how Lizzie's style is still the same yet the pictures are new and different. Love the progression.
