"It's here, it's here!" <---- my cries when I received Sommarnatt this morning! I've been waiting for this book for what seems like forever, and as a massive fan of Dagdrommar I was eager to get my hands on the sequel and see if it lived up to its predecessor. I'm so excited to report that it most definitely does! In fact, it's surpassed my expectations.
Sommarnatt (Summer Nights) is full of animals, floral adorned ladies, mini palaces, plants and leafy foliage, all in Karlzon's signature style. The book flows on perfectly from Dagdrommar, with much of the same of what we've come to know and love from Hanna. There's a mixture of double page spreads and standalone images, more of the latter. Take a look at my video flip through below, or if you can't view video, I've also made a slideshow of images.
The paper in this book is matched in quality to Dagdrommar- very thick and able to take waterbased markers without any bleed or shadowing on the reverse. This is a necessity as the book is double sided. I passed over some areas quite a few times with my Staedtler Triplus pens as I was blending colours together, and kept flipping the page over to check it wasn't bleeding through. Nope, nothing at all!
The format is also identical to Dagdrommar in size and thickness, with that same beautiful gold foiling on the front & back cover and the spine. They fit and look wonderful on the shelf together, Dagdrommar with its pastel green cover and Sommarnatt with pastel pink. The illustrations are all great, none of them you could call filler or too samey. I recently made it my mission to complete Dagdrommar as my first totally coloured book- now I'm adding this book to that mission as it feels like a natural extension! Don't forget the English language versions of all Hanna's books are out this summer- but I kinda like having the original Swedish versions as it makes the book that bit more mysterious :) Here's my finished picture, coloured with Staedtler Triplus and a bit of gel pen here & there. I added a black background in the end, which do you like best?
I received this book in exchange for an honest review. You can find it on PenStore and pre-order it on Amazon here:

I love Hanna Karlzon's works. She's a gifted artist. Her coloring books are magical and I can flip through it every day without getting bored. I have Dagdrommar in Japanese version and I'm hoping to get Sommarnatt in Swedish version. :)

I saw this fantastic book on your facebook and had to enter. I really started colouring with the teenage special Ed students I work with and ended up hooked on it. They would love this book.
