This colouring book has had a big presence on the colouring groups for a while, yet it only released officially today! The gorgeous papercut cover is the immediate draw, just look how stunning it looks on the picture above, it's like a delicate lace that has been stamped into the cover.
I love Scandanavian style art (see my reviews of similar books here and here), and indeed the colourful, patternful fabrics you often see in IKEA. I mention this because Zeena Shah is predominantly a textile designer with a big love for Nordic style, and this is reflected perfectly in Scandia. In the pages of this book you will find delicately illustrated animals, flowers and objects which are all intricately detailed and very whimsical. The animals are representative of the Scandi countries, including Bears, Arctic Fox, Otters, Deer and more. Everything in this book is filled to the brim with pattern and texture, every white space filled with zig zags, lines, shapes and leaves.
The paper is crisp white and thick, not the absolute thickest I've come across but definitely a premium quality. There's a bit of tooth for coloured pencils to layer, but the designs are printed single sided so you're good to go with fineliners and waterbased pens with no bleed through at all.
The book is 25cm square and has a very clean look about it with its white and teal palette. This minimal look allows the papercut cover to shine, sure to make Scandia pop off the shelves amongst all the other colouring books. Here's my finished page, coloured with Marco Raffine pencils and a black Zig marker for the background.
I was given this book in exchange for an honest review. You can find it on Amazon here:
